5 Things You Can Do To Help Save The Planet

Today I would like to share with you 5 Things You Can Do To Help Save The Planet.

According to Nasa, global climate change has already had observable effects on the environment. Glaciers have shrunk, ice on rivers and lakes is breaking up earlier, plant and animal ranges have shifted and trees are flowering sooner.

Effects that scientists had predicted in the past would result from global climate change are now occurring: loss of sea ice, accelerated sea-level rise, and longer, more intense heat waves.

But what can we do to help the planet?

1. Re-Usable Shopping Bags

As you may already know, plastic bags are problematic for many reasons, one of them which is the number of years they take to decompose. According to one plastic bag takes up to 1,000 years to degrade in a landfill. And even then, the bag doesn’t break down completely but instead photo-degrades, becoming microplastics that absorb toxins and continues to pollute the environment.

2. Compost

Instead of throwing away food into the usual bin, try composting. By composting leftover food we can not only create a natural fertilizer for the garden but also cut down on the amount of waste going to the landfill. This reduces the build-up of methane gas, which is created when food breaks down anaerobically.

3. Re-Usable Water Bottles

If you do not have a re-usable water bottle yet, please invest in one. It doesn’t have to be the latest, fanciest, hyped water bottle on the market. Any re-usable water bottle will do and the planet will thank you for it. It takes only a few seconds to refill a reusable bottle and 450 years for a plastic bottle to decompose.

4. Buy Second Hand and Try To Buy Less Fast Fashion Products

If you can and try and avoid shopping for Fast Fashion products. I know that this is not always possible due to the lack of resources or availability. In order to be nicer to the plat and your wallet, try to buy sustainable pieces that you will wear over and over again, rather than trendy products that will get out of fashion by the time you find an occasion to wear that garment.

In 1991, the average consumer-owned 40 pieces of clothing compared to the average of 63.7 garments owned in 2013. While this may sound like nothing but a win for the consumer, the reality of the environmental and ethical impact of these statistics affects everyone in the fashion life cycle.

One Green Planet

5. Familiarize Yourself With Circular Economy

If you haven’t heard of Circular Economy before, then I recommend that you look into it.

Before looking at the Circular Economy, we should look at the linear economy – that we can mostly find today. In the linear economy, raw resources are transformed into products that get disposed of. Whereas, in a circular economy the goal is to close the gap between the production and the natural ecosystems’ cycles.

The two major objectives here are eliminating waste, increasing the use of renewable energy as well as cutting down on the use of chemical substances.

I have collated a list of resources that go into the topis above in much more depth and can help educate yourself, your family, and your firends.
