5 Reasons To Visit Brac, Croatia

Today I would like to write about 5 Reasons To Visit Brac, Croatia.

I am originally from Croatia, so it is only natural to tell everyone about it. Croatia is known for its wealth of islands – 1244 islands to be exact – and today’s blog post will focus on one of them: the island of Brač.

Dragons Cave In Murvica

Murvica is a small settlement away from the crowds of Zlatni Rat. It is most known for being the home of the Dragon’s Cave or Zmajeva Pećina – as we call it in Croatian – is dating back to the 15th century. The Dragon’s Cave is located 5km west of Bol and decorated with Christian and pagan symbols. The symbols are carved into the rock and it is believed that it was the work of the monks that used to live in the caves. Some people believe that the entry into the cave is very rich in energy and therefore a great spot for meditation.

You will also find a lot of bright green pine trees around the beach. Their color is beautiful and vibrant and offers a great contrast to the crystal clear teal colored water. As you can tell I am a big fan of the pine trees!

Zlatni Rat

Zlatni Rat is one of the most famous beaches in Croatia. Chances are that you have seen a billboard with the image of Zlatni Rat inviting you to visit Brac and spend your summer in Croatia while waiting for your train. Located 2km from Bol on the Island of Brac, the Golden Horn is famous for its ever-changing shape, which is being influenced, by wind, water and currents. It has been named as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Vidova Gora

Vidova Gora on the island of Brač is the highest mountain peak of all Adriatic islands and one of the most beautiful viewpoints of the Adriatic sea. Once you reach the top, you will be greeted with the most amazing view of Zlatni Rat. So what are you waiting for? Pack your camera put on your hiking shoes and slather on the sunscreen and discover it for yourself. I promise that it looks even more beautiful in person than on the pictures that you can find on the internet.

Olive Oil Tasting

If you have visited Istria before, then you know that the best olive oils in Croatia come either from the region of Istria or the island of Brač. The cultivation of lives and the making of olive oil in Croatia dates back to Roman times. Croatian olive oils have won a lot of international awards and there is a good reason for it. If you are staying in Supetar, you can take a short bus ride to Škrip. A little village that is the home of the Olive Oil Museum (Muzej Ulja). Škrip is the oldest settlement on the island. The Olive Oil Museum was founded in 1864 and you can visit the family-run business even today. It is the home of the oldest preserved with working equipment. It is definitely worth a trip and I can ensure you that you will not be disappointed.

Brač Stone

The island of Brač is famous for its stonework. You may not know this, but Split’s Diocletian’s Palace, the Cathedral in Sibenik, the houses of parliament in Vienna & Budapest have been built with stones from the island of Brač. But that is not it! The exquisite work from Croatian stonemasons that have been taught near Pučišća ever since the Renaissance and Baroque period did not go unnoticed as it is believed that The White House in Washington was created using the limestones from Croatia.

As you can see, there is a wealth of reasons to Reasons To Visit Brac.
