Storytelling… Some of you might know that I did my Bachelor in International Business Management and my Masters of Science in Marketing… I must admit that I miss doing my research and writing and that is why I thought that I would just share with you things that I have found out in the past years and things that will find out in the future. My Master’s Thesis was focused on Luxury Brands and the narratives and storytelling behind them… bla bla… I won’t bore you with academic stuff and just tell you interesting things about your favorite brands.
Without further ado, let’s jump straight into Chanel: Storytelling At Its Best.
Our all-time favorite brand is of course Chanel. In my opinion, there is so much that we can learn from Chanel, no matter whether you work in Marketing or in any other field. Chanel’s story begins with: ‘Once upon a time there lived a little girl who hid her humble origins and preferred to invent her own legend’ (Inside Chanel, 2013). When it comes to the brand Chanel, it is crucial to understand Gabrielle Chanel’s struggles and her attitude towards the world. Gabrielle had to put in a lot of hard work in order to get her brand where it is today. ‘Chanel is not just another luxury fashion brand. It’s a philosophy, a state of mind, a statement, a label, worn with pride to say to the world: “I’ve arrived”’ (Kattan, 2013).
Coco Chanel – a woman who revolutionized fashion and transformed the female silhouette, allowed women to move with liberty. The high level of uncertainty avoidance made it hard for Gabrielle to succeed, but her goal was set and she did it anyway.
Mademoiselle – as Coco Chanel was called – is the common thread that ties together the history, present, and future of the House of Chanel. Mademoiselle still plays an important role, even though Virginie Viard is continuing to walk in her footsteps and reinventing the brand.
Today the brand stands for eternal style, elegance and is an example of classic beauty.
